Trailer for Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom

At one point a few years back, right after the release of The Darjeeling Limited, I thought Wes Anderson was the most brilliant and visionary filmmaker in modern cinema.  The Fantastic Mr. Fox was entertaining, and I think that Anderson's very particular style might actually be most suited to stop-motion animation.

But a few years have now passed, and I can't recall the last time I felt compelled to pull my Criterion copy of Rushmore off the shelf and pop it into my DVD player (or even Bottle Rocket, which is still my favorite Anderson film).

The next entry in Anderson's series of precious, mise-en-scene-obsessed, time period-indeterminate film-novels (hyphen-much?) is Moonrise Kingdom.  It's a teen (or pre-teen?) love story about two predictably charming and precocious kids who decide to run away from summer camp together.  In addition to the obligatory Bill Murray and Jason Scwartzman roles, Anderson has lured first-time collaborators Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, and Frances McDormand.  I just checked IMDB, and though they are glaringly absent from the full cast list, I absolutely refuse to believe that there is not a Wilson brother in this film.  If there are two things in this world that will never cease to be true, it is that Dick Clark will host a Rockin' New Year's Eve, and Wesley "Corduroy Suit" Anderson will have at least one goddamn Wilson brother in every film he makes (even if it's Andrew).

Anyway, the trailer has been released, and you can watch it here.  I will certainly make an effort to see it, but that effort may only go as far as bumping it up to the top of my Netflix queue.
