The Darkness Returns
Nostalgic glam metal band The Darkness was big for a minute or two back in the early aughts with their hit "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" (JUSTLISTENTOTHERHYTHMOFMAHEART!). While there was certainly an element of irony to their carefully constructed homage to the '80's titans of the genre (Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, et al.), The Darkness proved they were not merely a novelty, but could rock just as mightily as their forefathers. Frontman Justin Hawkins' vocal range brings to mind Freddie Mercury, and the band is responsible for the single greatest ode to STDs in rock history (the only ode to STDs in rock history?).
After 2005's One Way Ticket To Hell...And Back, the band self-destructed, mainly due to Hawkins' battle with substance abuse. If that album title is not enough foreshadowing for you, The Darkness are indeed back with a new single "Nothin's Gonna Stop Us" (and fortunately it's not a Jefferson Starship cover). They've even released a video (how kitschy!), complete with silly low-budget animation. Check it here.
