Kurt Cobain Would Have Been 45 Yesterday

Hmmm, interesting thought. What if Kurt was still alive? I have a hard time believing he'd still be making music. As conflicted and troubled as he was about Nirvana's success, I don't see how he would still want to be in the media spotlight, at least for his music anyway. Had he sought treatment for his depression and managed to overcome it (or at least cope with it), perhaps he would have become an outspoken advocate for mental illness, dedicating his life to helping those who experience the same seemingly unbearable struggle that he endured.

Or perhaps he would have just moved to a cabin in the remote Pacific Northwest, embracing reclusivity like a Grunge J.D. Salinger, never to be heard from again, while his legion of fans were left to speculate on whether he was still writing songs.

Music writer and Sound Opinions co-host Jim DeRogatis commemorates the occasion of Cobain's birthday by commenting on his legacy and including a profile he wrote on the band back in 1993. Check it here
