The J Files: Sunday Funday!

Courtesy of Pitchfork
All right, y'all, I promise this will be the last J Mascis-related post for the foreseeable future (unless something crazy happens, like, he spontaneously combusts or Lou Barlow's bludgeoned body is found floating in the Gulf of Mexico).

At last year's SXSW Festival, the planets aligned for us here at Real Au Jus, as two of our holiest of rock deities convened for a precious few moments in time. Mod-Celtic-Punk Ted Leo, he of the willowy falsetto that makes Dave Longstreth consider purchasing even tighter-whities, was dispatched by IFC to interview The Mascis.

We don't love this clip for anything we learn about Teddy and Uncle J. You'd think their dialogue would provide some insight into the minds of these two indie rock icons, or at least a juicy anecdote or two about stories from the studio or the road. No, what's great about this clip for geeks like us is the unintentional comedy generated by J's rather terse responses to Ted's thoughtful questions. It's clear that Mr. Leo is taking this opportunity to interview one of his heroes very seriously, and he gamely perseveres despite J's evident lack of interest in the whole undertaking. We feel for ya Ted. Thanks for trying, and we hope you were able to get a chuckle out of it, too.
