Look at the dudes in that photo. Fascinating, aren't they? They look like some baseball-themed stoner-sludge metal band, right?
In fact they are members of a religious cult known as the House of David which rose to prominence in the Midwest in the early part of the twentieth century. Male members of the HOD were forbidden from cutting their hair, which explains the long, glorious, flowing locks. Apparently, certain of these members could also throw some mean heat and hit for power, as the HOD fielded a very competitive baseball team that toured the nation and won a string of amateur tournaments during the '20's and '30's.
Independent sports website The Classical details the exploits of the HOD's achievements on the diamond, through an interview with the curator of the House of David museum (yes, there is an HOD museum). Read the article here.
