OK, I guess one could argue that the Dinosaur Jr. frontman has been making stoner rock over the course of his entire career as a musician. But our favorite portly, witch-haired rock god will soon be melting faces once more. Mascis is prepping a new album for his latest musical incarnation, Heavy Blanket. The press release claims that the band reunites J with a couple of stoner buddies from high school who used to play heavy, psychedelic instrumental rock back in the days when J was presumably less schlubby but probably just as eccentric and aloof. Heavy psychedelic instrumental rock? You mean, no singing and all face melting guitars? Bring it!
The album is set to drop on May 8th. In the meantime, the band has released a brief promo video, which you can check out after the jump.
