Welcome back to the weekly slog. It's a cold Monday morning here in the CHI. After a two week run of eerily summer-like sun and heat, we're back to more traditional March weather.
This week's SOTW is a space age sound suite from Milwaukee electronic artist Casino Versus Japan (aka Erick Kowalski). CVJ dropped three albums of atmospheric synths and programmed beats in the late '90's/early aughts, capped by 2002's Whole Numbers Play the Basics, Kowalski's most accomplished set of chilled, downtempo, compositions. "Where to? / What for?" is the perfect distillation of this sound. For the better part of the past year or two, this track has been the ringtone on my cellphone, and I'm still not sick of it. In fact, I've designated it as the theme song for the TV adaptation of the teen/sci-fi/alien abduction novel that I plan to write at some point in the near future.
Spiritualized be damned, this is the true soundtrack for floating in space.
