Gabe Klein's Big Plans for Chicago Biking
Gabe Klein is the commissioner of CDOT (Chicago Department of Transportation) who was brought on last May as part of Rahm Emmanuel's administration. A passionate proponent of urban cycling, Klein has wasted little time in kickstarting a number of bike-friendly initiatives, including protected bike lanes (in the Loop, no less), bike-sharing systems and bike park corrals, and The Bloomingdale Trail, a rails-to-trails project that would be the first of its kind in Chicago. John Greenfield at Grid Chicago recently accompanied Klein on his morning commute and provides a fascinating profile of the commissioner.
