A new week is upon us and it is an absolutely dreary Monday (at least here in Chicago). In our effort to combat the gloom, we have selected an unabashedly fierce and driving rock anthem courtesy of classic UK psych/drone/garage noise fiends Spacemen 3.
In its heyday in the mid-to-late '80's, these guys released a number of heavily psychedelic albums that focused on extended compositions of heavy droning guitars, minimal percussion, and loads of reverb, feedback, and general noise and squall. A lot of their output would be considered "inaccessible" by most mainstream pop aficionados, but the 3 did have a knack for melody, which they indulged on occasion (and which member Jason Pierce later embraced in Spiritualized).
A perfect example of this is the song "Walkin' with Jesus". Check it here, and don't be surprised to find yourself replaying this jam in your mental iPod throughout the day.
