RAJ Song of the Week - The Fire In My Head by Voice of the Seven Woods
A new week is upon us, and that means we need a RAJ-worthy anthem to get us all movin' and groovin' on this beautiful President's Day. And let us just dwell on the weather for a moment. It is currently 45 degrees with clear skies and a blazing sun here in Chicago. In mid-February. We're still perplexed by this mild, snowless winter, and not sure whether it's a good or a bad thing (it's a fantastic thing according to the chuckleheads on the various nightly newscasts; climate change be damned!).
We'll forego a lengthy rant and focus on the tunes. This week's SOTW is entitled "The Fire In My Head", and it's a funky little ragga by British multi-instrumentalist Rick Tomlinson, otherwise known under the much cooler moniker Voice of the Seven Woods. The song is off the 2007 self-titled album that remains VOTSW's sole release. The track is heavily psychedelic, with equal parts sitar and fuzz guitar, supported by a grooving rhythm reminiscent of the finest '70's era Afrobeat sounds.
So break out the hookah tonight, clear a spot on the Persian rug, dim the lights, and crank this jam. Tony Sarabia approves!
