John Dies at the End - Teaser Trailer

Don Coscarelli is a director best known for his Phantasm series of horror films in the '80's and '90's. True film geeks also revere him for 2002's cult classic Bubba Ho-Tep, in which an aging Elvis and JFK reside in a senior citizen's home, and are forced to  protect their fellow residents from an evil mummy (seriously). Coscarelli's latest film is John Dies at the End, adapted from the novel by David Wong.

Here's Wong's own synopsis of the story as listed on IMDB:

It's a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. On the street they call it Soy Sauce, and users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can't.

I have not yet read the book but it is on my reading list for 2012.  As of now, I don't believe the film has an official release date. The film premiered at Sundance and the review I've read have been mixed. The trailer looks promising, though not sure exactly how large of a role Paul Giamatti plays in the film (hopefully a substantial one, though it appears that his character may just be an expository device).
