Not so long as Dave Wakeling is around. The long-time front man of the venerable British retro ska/soul band The English Beat (or just "The Beat" as they're known in the UK) has been tirelessly touring with a revolving group of backing musicians for the past fifteen years, playing the band's classic hits like "Mirror in the Bathroom" and "Save it for Later." I've seen them thrice (yes, thrice) in that time, and each show is a rollicking blast of joy, nostalgia, and of course, dancing.
Dave and his mates are back in town this weekend with two shows at SPACE in Evanston, tonight and tomorrow night. Tickets are a bit pricey ($38-$68), but Dave never fails to put on a great show.
Now, we must skank!
